Building a Better Web Experience for The Greater Philadelphia Film Office

Project Overview

While the Greater Philadelphia region has long been a backdrop for iconic productions like Abbott Elementary, Rocky, Silver Linings Playbook, and Mare of Easttown, its local film office lacked the modern web presence needed to support and grow the region’s film industry. We led a full website redesign for the Greater Philadelphia Film Office; refreshing its visual identity, rebuilding the site architecture, and optimizing for SEO. The result is a streamlined, modern platform that guides filmmakers through a clear and intuitive journey to launch their projects in the region.

WEB DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

The Greater Philadelphia Film Office came to us with a website that hadn’t been meaningfully updated in nearly a decade. The outdated back-end made even basic updates difficult, while poor navigation and functionality created a frustrating experience for users trying to access key information. We led a comprehensive redesign – revitalizing the site’s visual identity with updated imagery, cohesive branded graphics, and a clean, modern layout. Beyond aesthetics, we completely restructured the site architecture, rewrote and optimized all copy for SEO, and streamlined navigation to create an intuitive user journey. Each page was thoughtfully designed to guide visitors toward the most relevant resources, increasing both engagement and accessibility. The new site was built on a modern WordPress framework with an upgraded back-end and current plugins, delivering a seamless, scalable experience for both users and administrators.

Step 1:

Website Strategy

We collaborated closely with the GPFO marketing team to better understand their pain points, goals, and all of the intricacies of their resources and initiatives. These insights informed our approach to both the user experience and creative strategy for the new website.

Step 2:

SEO Planning

We conducted a comprehensive SEO audit with competitor and keyword research, and analyzed site performance to inform a new site architecture. From there, we developed a revised site plan, refreshing copy and restructuring pages to boost clarity, search visibility, and user flow.

Step 3:

Website Mockup

Using the new content plan as a blueprint for page mockups, we refined layouts and graphics, and sourced images to boost visual appeal. Pages were reviewed with GPFO on a rolling basis, allowing development to begin in parallel with design.

Step 4:

Website Development

We brought the designs to life using the Elementor WordPress builder, allowing for full customization while ensuring the backend remained user-friendly for the GPFO’s team to update copy, approve job submissions, and create new blogs.

Step 5:

Testing & Launch

Before going live, we conducted thorough testing across devices and browsers to ensure optimal performance, accessibility, and responsiveness. From fine-tuning functionality to catching any last-minute glitches, we delivered a polished site ready to support the GPFO’s growth.
